Michael Salerno

<-- Michael Salerno

I was very impressed with his art work even though i had no idea what the meaning behind his painter were. However, luckily I was able to met with the artist himself at the gallery. His reasoning for each of the art work was very interesting and cleared up most of my confusion about his art work.
He said "Even if you read the title, it does not mean anything because I just chose random names for my pieces of art work." After he completes one of this painting he just use random objects names, famous people or sometimes just strangers he met names. I was very enlighten about art after talking with him, he was a very wise man. He wanted the viewers to gaze upon his art work and get their own experience from what they see instead of just reading the title to get the general concept of the art work. One of his family member was a physiologist and his pictures are almost like an Rorschach ink blot test. A test where you just splash paint on a page and say what you see. His paintings are explain through personal experience and everyone has their own story to tell about each painting. His goal was to let people experience the painting for what they think it means instead of defining his paints. He does not even want to label his works of art, but could not just leave it untitled.

Downtown Center

The last gallery I attended at the Pomona Art walk was at the Downtown Center. They were featuring Michael Salerno selected works since 1992 - 2009. When I first stepped in to this gallery, the paintings surprised me because I really can't tell what the meaning behind the painters were. The title did not help me at all because the painters were just scribbles of colors. Then, while I stood there gazing upon this weird art work the artist himself Michael Salerno was talking right next me with a few other adults about his paintings.

Eva Andry

^--Turquoise Landscape
 Eva Andry
$250
Turquoise Landscape is an oil on canvas painting. This was painted by Eva Andry and it cost $250 dollars at the Miramar gallery.
This unique painting is 3 dimensional by the way the web like ribbons flow through the canvas with curves and twist giving form to the art. There are oval holes throughout the ribbon webs. I really like the color chosen for this painting white, night blue, and light blue. It almost looks like seaweeds under the ocean. It's a soothing painting to view once in a while when one is tired or stress. The different shades of blue is very calming to gaze upon.

Inner Landscape by Eva Andry is also hunged at the Miramar gallery. However, this painting is sold for $350.
 InnerLandscape--^

This painting reminds me of poison because normally I relate purple and turquoise blue together it makes a weird illness.
The painting looks like a tub that extend downward by the way the spots begin to get smaller to the center of the painting.

Jorge Higuera

Untitled -->
Oil
Jorge Higuera
$1200

This painting was untitled along with many other paintings he had hung up at the Miramar gallery. I really enjoyed this painting, it was breath taking. This painting infinite details was very impressive, as I gazed at the small details scattered throughout this painting I notice sun rays that shine from the clouds onto the ocean surface. The clouds are so puffy.
The realistic sea turtle is so adorable lounging around the beach. The ocean was created through different types of colors used to create the clear blue sea.
However, I found a few flaws in the painting when i looked carefully. There are a few pieces of the cloud missing through some of the branches.

Miramar

<-- Front of Miramar Gallery

Miramar Gallery was my second favorite gallery at the Pomona art walk that night. This gallery has wonderful varies of art works on display ranging from the natural landscape to abstract. This gallery even had skateboard painted designs.

Mermaid Martini

<-- Mermaid Martini
Ralph Burch

Ralph Burch is one of America's Red Hot artist in America. His art works are highly collected among artists.  He is well known for his background on advertising and marketing. He already won 250 national and internationals awards for creativity.
This painting was so beautiful, and it is currently hung on the wall of Ferguson Fine & Arts Design.
I love mermaids, but to think of putting a martini and a mermaid together was a genius idea. The color is so soft and calming with five tropical fish swimming on the lower half of the martini glass. The mermaid have lushes curves and a long tail for fins.
My friend Robert Micklis Mentions that the tail of the mermaid is too smooth and it is not realistic enough. There is no fins besides the flippers, if only the artist can make it more realistic. I agreed with what he had to say about the smooth tail without scales. I noted that the mermaids has legs, almost like the young lady actually was a model who slipped on a mermaid tail to a costume.

Gil Elvgren

<-- Pick of the Crop (Up A Tree)
1964
Gil Elvgren

Gil Elvgren art works were the main attraction in the front of Ferguson Find Art & Design store. As I walked into this gallery  his professional oil canvas were seen all over the wall. There was also middium canvases, postcards, notepads and many other merchindise of beautiful young ladies Gil Evlgren painted. The young ladies were very sexy in reviling clothing.
Elvgren the best pin- up artist in American history and currently still the best in the perceptive of many different artists. His works has inspired many around the world and even had a book publish "The Great American Pinup."
His paintings are sold in 16" x 20" Giclees on Canvas for $100.00 dollars each at Ferguson's.
These are really "Hot" art works,  even if it is a painting of different young ladies in lingerie she still look so realistic and flawless.
It's attracts a lot of attention to the art work since it captures what adult fantasies.

Ferguson Fine & Arts Design

Ferguson Fine & Arts Design -->

My friends and I, decided to explore Pomona Art Walk, in search of new galleries. There were many galleries with open doors welcoming viewers to come in to either purchase or view the art works like Ferguson Fine & Arts Design. There was a neon light outside the window that actually flashed "Art Gallery" and like flies my friends and I were attracted to it.
There were many creative paintings and art works on sale and up all over the wall. I personally think this gallery is aimed for adults viewers because of the outfit and big breast of the female art works were very noticeable. Nonetheless, the arts were impressive in this gallery.

Leslie Brown

Leslie Brown -->

This chalk art was done by Leslie Brown at the dA gallery. There was no title for this work or any other information besides the artist name.
This impressive work really show off how neighborhoods around Los Angeles. As a person who grew up in Los Angeles, this art work reminded me of areas where I have been and seen as a child.
<--  Art work (Up close).

The detail of the work is impressive. The details of color, shading, and tone is done with skilled hands. This chalk art work really lead the viewers eyes around by other sectors of the work. It's very noticeable that the artist had took months to complete this piece.
The up close view of the art work really look like hurried scribes on the lard part of the art work. From a distant the art work look neat and carefully colored. This is pretty impressive and memorable since the color is still chalked in dark to make the details pop out to viewers.

Acrylic on Canvas

These three paintings are made of acrylic on canvas and each one is sold for $1,200.00. The top painting is called Once I could fly, the middle is the Time to Roll and the on the bottom is It's not to far. These paintings are so beautiful and inspiring.
The first painting Once I could fly is a lovely painting that is painted in the bird eyes view of a river. The title of the art piece is very fitting because even with the ability to fly or on an airplane the river next to the land would look similar to the painting. The river would look smaller and the lines were the sand and water met would be more define in the air. I really enjoy the color the artist has chosen for this piece because the colors are so rich. The boulders along the river bank are place so naturally.
The second painting Time to Roll is a painting of a grassy hills, where many would feel the urge to roll down to the bottom. The tone of this painting is grassy like spring. Its very peaceful to gazed upon.
The last painting is called It's not to far, I think Rick Caughman use the same color as Tres Titis. The green, orange and red, however,  this time the green is the lowest point of the painting extending upward to the red sand dunes in the background.

 Monte Vista -->
 Acrylic on Canvas
$7,500.00

This painting is called Monte Vista a acrylic painting on canvas that cost 7,500.00 at the dA gallery. As I walked around with my friends, I remember this painting capturing my eyes, from up close the brush strokes are noticeable.
The dark shade of green on the lower mountains to me looks like its computer generated into the painting. I don't believe it fits very well in the painting the way it was painted. Nonetheless, the three panels are beautiful, I definitely love the painted skies because of the colors. Actually, thinking about it, I wonder if the sun is setting or raising? The colors and sun light does not make it very clear to me because the sky looks like it was once dark from the right corner with the clouds, however the sun looks like it is setting because of the colors that I identify a sun set color as. A like hind of red in the setting glow of the sun.

Tres Titis

The "Tres Titis" are made up of Acrylic on Door Panels. This painted by the artist Rick Caughman for 2,500.00. This is a lovely colorful pieces of art so bright and unique.
vTress Titis.  Acrylic on Door Panel. 2,500.00
Tres Titis is a simple painting, however, there are so many colors shading and blending to every part of this piece. The individual sand dunes are shaded ranging from the base being the darkest then it gradually becomes lighter. The work of art allows the eyes to move and wonder by the different details like the pointed downward sand dunes and the white soft winds blowing from one left to the right.
This painting certainly draws attention to the three different color sand dunes. I still believe they are sand dunes, because of the shape pointy and has three in a row.

Weeping Mountains

 <-- "Weeping Mountains"
Oil on Canvas
 Not for Sale

This oil on canvas was painted in 1989 called Weeping Mountains. This painting is on display at the dA gallery, however, it is currently not for sale.
The color are so bright and beautiful used to create the Weeping Mountains. The clouds on background looks  I really enjoy the quality of this painting, it actually became one of my favorites throughout the whole dA gallery.
However, Robert did not really enjoy this painting much. He believe that that the weeping mountain is not really weeping instead the painting just got something spilled on it. I really did not see that until he pointed it out. I miss that detail about the water affect. However, I noted that the clouds looks like a storm is going to blow in soon. Its the edge of the dark sky that looks ominous, and also judging by the big storm clouds in the painting sky.
There is depth is this painting and the painting is a sandy tone.

Rebirth

 Rebirth -->
Acrylic Over Oil
$5,000.00

The first art work that caught my eyes at the dA gallery was called Rebirth. Rebirth is a Acrylic Over oil created in 1999 and 2010. This art work cost $5,000.00 and this piece really did amazed me because it made me think a lot about meaning of the theme before I looked at the title. I really did not get it at first why it was called rebirth until I took a closer look to details.
My friend Robert Micklis was standing right next me so we decided to play the "buddy" game. He noted the excellent colors used to create this art work, tone and color is so bright. You can notice the rust right off the first boat. I thought about it a little longer and I made a comment on the far boat about the power of the cargo ship. I thought it was a cargo ship at first, but Robert said it might be a cruise ship.
This sure was an excellent graphic painting, but I decided it was time to move on with the whole gallery.

The dA Gallery

 <-- The dA Gallery

On March 13, 2010, my friends and I decided to attend the Pomona Art Walk. We arrived at 6:15 pm and found parking right in front of the dA gallery.                      Theme of the Gallery--v
I was really looking forward to another  new experience with art.  The dA gallery was again the "Hot" spot of the whole Pomona art gallery.
They were very generous with their snacks and sure enough the arts works were amazing as well. They served cupcakes, potatoes chips, wine, cheese, and vegetable platter. Each plate of food was just laid out across one table and the bare. After a few small plates I went back to admiring the arts.
The dA gallery theme this time around is called Looking at Blue or... No 5 Rich Caughman. This is his 5th annual show at the dA. The theme actually mean when said "Looking at Blue" the artist Caughman commented on how he want to inspired positive thinking because of all the challenges everyone faces today. Caughman want to fight back by giving others optimism and kindness through the paintings. Some of his work at the dA gallery would be defined with the bold colors and extreme designs. While there are other paintings that is subtle and introspective.

Big Wave Ocean Seascape. 6

<-- Big Wave Ocean Seascape
5 Panels Oil Painting

These five panels are all collections of Oil Painting of a big wave created on December of 2007. These paintings are so realistic and beautiful.
These painting is so elegant and graceful. It's almost feels like a wave would crash into the room. It's amazing to have a small piece of the ocean in your own room.
That is why I have chosen this panel to be place in my space. It's calming to watch the wave crash on the rocks or the breeze after a huge wave.
This piece of work put everything together. It's fits well with the dolphins and sea turtles that I have chosen and the Spaghetti Bâle bench. Every piece that I have chosen is my favorite and this is what I think a peaceful, unique and tranquil room would look.

Future Seas. 5

<-- Future Seas
Wyland
Lucite Sculptures

This Lucite Sculptures by Wyland is currently being sold at the Wyland Gallery for over 34,000 dollars. This sculpture is called Future Seas, the bottlenose dolphins seen in the sculptures look like they are enjoying the waves by breaking through the sea surface. One of the dolphin is riding the wave while two other dolphin swims below.  The beauty of this art work is that it looks like you are right there with the dolphins.
This sculpture is right next to the window so the natural light can reflect off the clear sculptures water to make it shine bright. The sun almost makes the sculpture comes to life during the day. That is why its right next to the window to capture as much natural light as possible to reflect sunlight throughout the room.

Turtle Reef Coffee Table Bronze Sculpture. 4

 <-- Turtle Reef Coffee Table
Wyland
Bronze Sculpture

Sea turtles are one of the most elegant and graceful creatures in the sea. They are harmless only when disturbed or threaten.
This glass table with the two turtles are called Turtle Reef Table bronze sculpture by Wyland. This is what I call a work of art is made with cast bronze and currently it cost over  $20,000 dollars for this coffee table sculpture.
The sea turtle is so life like. It's almost, like the sea turtle is actually  swimming under the glass. The surface of the glass looks so crystal clear similar to the surface of the water. When a viewers look through the glass, the sea turtle dance under the table. This is a piece of work that obviously took many hours to accomplish.

Zhen Orchid. 2

-->
Zhen Orchid
Lian Quan Zhen

Zhen Orchid is a lovely and unique water coloring painting done by Lian Quan Zhen. This painting is found in one of Lian's books called Chinese Watercolor Techniques for Exquisite Flowers.
The painting is a nice addition to the room because the watercolors use to paint the flowers are so bright and lively. The beauty of this watercolor is that it makes the color of the pedal bends so well together. The individual colors are noticeable, then when it transition into another color the ability to blend the color without leaving behind any evidence or line is amazing.
This painting is really nice on the wall next to the wooden bed. When many times of trees, many would think of flowers because trees also blooms flowers. The vibe of trees and flowers together is so natural.

The Wooden Bed. 1

<-- Wooden Bed
Unknown designer

This bed simply looks wild, gorgeous and hot. This beautiful earthy bed looks like it is created from the wild jungle by natives.
The color of the bed spread are tranquil and mellow which is excellent for the earthy vibe. It does well with the ocean theme because the color of the whole bed are not bright color that would distract the viewers eyes from the rest of the room layout.
This creatively design for the bed frame are wooden logs. The logs actually looks like it is growing from the base of the floor. There are also wooden branches weaved around the log frame this makes the whole design look more natural.

Natural Tranquility

<-- Cher's Room Layout

I personally enjoy being around nature and the ocean. As I watch the wave crash and the wild dolphins break through the surface of the clear blue sea, I feel peaceful and relaxed.
I enjoy the beauty and power of the majestic sea and the earth. The beauty of the natural wonders are art works that mother nature has given us like the landscape, oceans, forest and the animals that inhabit this world along side us.
So the main focus of my room would be of nature creations like the earthy woods and a mixture of the oceans beauty which comes together to form a  peaceful and tranquil room.
I created a layout of my room to display where the art work that I have personally chosen goes, to make it a more pleasant experience for the viewer. First, I chose a theme, then worked my way up by choosing the appropriate art works. The room layout took a lot of time and effort, but I think it turned out very well.
I paid very close attention to the room natural lighting from the window. I work with my knowledge of placement and color matching for each individual art works.
To me every furniture in a house is an art work, not just the paintings and pictures on the wall because it was first design then created through time and effort to make whole. The six furniture and art pieces that I have chosen are my personal favorites.

The Sea I

< The Sea I
Emil Nolde
Oil on Canvas
The Sea I is such a powerful painting by Emil Nolde. It reminds me how vicious the open sea can be. I would not want to be stuck out there with currents that strong. Which is terrifying if caught in a thunderstorm like how the Deadest catch boats can survive in those horrible weathers.
Emil Nolde was one of the founders of the German Expressionist movement. He was very in tune with the earth and the sea for his ancestors had live beside the North Sea for nine generations. He never lost sight of how strong and destructive the ocean current. He used very vivid colors of darkness to paint the storm to give a good sense of fear.

Exotic Landscape

^ Exotic Landscape
Henri Rousseau
Oil on Canvas

Exotic Landscape was painted by the French artist Heri Rousseau in the 1910. This oil on Canvas painting landscape takes place in a jungle with three brown and a gray monkey. This painting has such a lush and vivid vegetation, exotic flowers, and wild animals.
This painting has Rosenberg criteria, with the beautiful colors, the lines and the arch in the paintings. The three brown monkey's points downward with the four falling oranges while the gray monkey holds up a fruit goes up.

The Flower Vendor (Girl with Lilies)

 >
The Flower Vendor (Girl with Lilies
Diego Rivera
Oil on Masonite

When I first viewed this painting something hit me instantly when I gazed upon the beauty and unique quality of this art work. I realize that this is not the first time I have gazed upon this painting.
I first saw a poster of this painting when I was in the second grade. I never thought this painting was just in Pasadena in the Norton Simon Museum.
The Flower Vendor is painted by Diego Rivera in 1941. At a very young age Diego Rivera entered art school and moved to Europe in 1907. He was influenced by the Italian muralists and contemporary French painters. He became a mural painter since returning home 1921 to Mexico.

The Back Garden of Sien's Mother's House, The Hague

This lovely drawing by Vincent van Gogh hold great sentimental importance to the artist.

^ The Back Garden of Sien's Mother's House, The Hague
Vincent van Gogh
May 1882
In this drawing, the garden and the house belongs to the mother of van Gogh's mistress, Clasina (Sien) Hoornik.
The drawing is beautiful, however, though the drawing of lines, web of planes and angles are well drawn it does not feel like van Gogh have any connection with the location because at that time van Gogn was experimenting with a gridded frame to help him practice perspectives.

Tulips in a Vase

^  - - - - - - - - - - - Tulips in a Vase
Paul Cézanne
Oil on Paper
This elegant painting is called Tulips in a Vase by Paul Cézanne. It was painted in 1888 to 1890 and is currently hung in the Norton Simon Museum. Paul Cézanne began painting floral still lifes since the 1870's along side his friend Camille Passarro.
This lovely painting is probably painting for his wife who he was visiting in Paris. This painting is one of the only two he painted with tulips as the main focus for his still life portraits. Interestingly, this painting was the first painting Norton Simon purchased from one of the old masters.
